This photo documents Quality Pool Supply’s earliest roots. Engelhart Bros. Plumbing & Heating was started in Flint, Michigan by Jack Engelhart’s parents, Augustin and Mildred Engelhart. “Gus” and “Millie” Engelhart are pictured second and third from the right. On the far right is their estimator and job superintendent, Leo Goyette, who later started Goyette Mechanical Co., whose service vans are today a common site in the Flint area. Most of the others in the photo are the plumbers. The plumbing company became A.P Engelhart Co. in 1930’s, a wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating and well drilling supplies. In 1968, Jack Engelhart attended his first NSPI show and began distributing swimming pool equipment from A.P Engelhart Co. to local pool dealers in the Flint and Saginaw area. In 1971 Jack and Bill Morrish left A.P. Engelhart Co. to start Quality Pool Supply, specializing in steel wall package pools. After a number of mergers and acquisitions, A.P. Engelhart Co. ended up as branches of Ferguson in Flint and Port Huron, Michigan. Ferguson is America’s largest distributor of plumbing, pipe, valves & fittings and HVAC with over 1,000 locations.
