ever heard of an “automated” manual transmission? We have
a 2007 Freightliner scheduled to arrive in May that will have a manual
transmission—but no stick shift. The shifting is operated by
computer! The driver simply selects drive, reverse or neutral, and
the shifting is done at the appropriate time for him. This is not
an automatic transmission is the conventional sense, but a true manual
transmission. What will they think of next?
