Before
starting Quality Pool Supply Company, Jack was a partner at A.P. Engelhart
Company, a wholesale plumbing and heating business begun by his father
in Flint, Michigan. The company began to stock swimming pool equipment
in 1968, and after three years Jack decided to go into the swimming
pool business full time.
He
opened a small warehouse in his hometown of Clio, partnering with
Bill Morrish who had also worked at A.P. Engelhart as controller.
With one truck, Quality Pool Supply delivered 99 inground pools that
first summer in 1971. Jobsite delivery was virtually unheard of at
that time, but Jack’s business philosophy was built on customer
service. Quality Pool Supply was also the first pool supplier in Michigan
that did not sell retail—Jack wanted to partner with, rather
than compete with, his customers.
Jack enjoys helping our customers with technical support when they
encounter those especially challenging problems. He has technical
expertise in so many fields we cannot possibly list them all here.
Jack’s hobbies are equally varied. Lately he has become an expert
on solar power and his hunting cabin in northern Michigan is powered
by the latest in solar technology.
Jack is married to Clarice and they have four grown children – Cary, Marsha, Lee, and Jana, and eleven grandchildren. Jack and Clarice now spend the winters in Florida
and enjoy frequent visits from their children and friends there.
